Dolph Lundgren was then what perhaps Nicholas Cage is today, a recognizable star who makes a ton of bad movies. A poor man’s Schwarzenegger (not like his oeuvre is anything special). Well, add The Punisher to the list as a ultra-violent (but not terribly graphic) dark crime/comic book movie. Dolph is Frank Castle aka The Punisher an ex-cop who basically goes around the city murdering gangsters after his wife and family were killed. It’s kind of difficult to feel sympathy for The Punisher, especially since Dolph plays him with all the zeal of a slab of meat. For some inexplicable reasons, he also has a sidekick named Shakespeare who only speaks in heroic couplets. Now that’s comedy!
