Quotes that were… "This swamp is a monument to death. Snakes, alligators, quicksand… all bent on one thing: destruction."
And quotes that should have been… "Ach! Lobo! I told you to stop leaving your toy rubber octopus around for people to trip on!"
Part of the Ed Wood collection. Lugosi and Tor are in business as a mad (Communist) scientist and a monster-body guard. Lugosi’s goal is to take over the world by creating a “master race” of atomic supermen. Too bad he’s being chased down by both the Russians and the local police force. The film is most lampooned for its use of a rubber octopus as its main monster (the real question, of course, is who really is the titular “monster”). However, in defense of the octopus, it provides what I consider a brilliant (for Wood) piece of Communist symbolism… even if it is made of rubber.
